It’s December and the holidays are creeping up. To celebrate, here is a list of some of our favorite activities occurring near Meridian this holiday season.
Winter Garden aGlow
Where: Idaho Botanical Garden, 2355 N. Penitentiary Road, Boise
When: November 24 through January 1
Time: 6 to 9 p.m. daily (last admission at 8:45 p.m.)
Cost: $10 general, $8 IBG members and children 5-12, in advance. Admission is $2 more at the gate, free for ages 4 and younger.
The Idaho Botanical Garden presents its annual Winter Garden aGlow. It displays more than 300,000 sparkling lights with visits from Santa and his reindeer Prancer. Enjoy local choirs, vendors, and more. Complimentary cocoa, cider and cookies are available (donations encouraged).
Boise Philharmonic: Holiday Pops
Where: Brandt Center, Northwest Nazarene University, 707 Fern St., Nampa (Dec. 8) and Morrison Center, 2201 Cesar Chavez Lane, Boise (Dec. 9)
When: December 8 and 9
Time: 7:30 p.m.
The Boise Philharmonic welcomes you to bring your entire family to the symphony for an evening of holiday carols and cheer. Special guests include the Boise Philharmonic Master Chorale and other solo vocalists. Holiday Pops promises to mesmerize listeners with familiar repertoire and sing along while inspiring joyful memories of holidays past.
Ballet Idaho’s “The Nutcracker”
Where: Morrison Center, 2201 Cesar Chavez Lane, Boise
When: December 15-17
Time: 7:30 p.m. on the 15th and 16th, and 4 p.m. on the 17th
Cost: $38, $46 and $61
Ballet Idaho continues the beloved holiday tradition of the timeless family classic, The Nutcracker, returning with live music by the Boise Philharmonic. Over 100 children from the Ballet Idaho Academy will grace the stage with the professional company members.

Christmas in Meridian
Where: Downtown Meridian
When: December 1 – 31
Time: All Day
Meridian residents are being treated to a lively and festive downtown during the Christmas season. Throughout the month of December local businesses and the community draw together to host a variety of events and activities to celebrate the magic of the holiday season together. Don’t forget to place your vote for the Downtown Lights Decorating Contest “People’s Choice” Award. Voting takes place from Friday, Dec. 1 -10 and will be announced on Monday, December 11.
Saturday, December 9, from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the Boys and Girls Club (911 N. Meridian Road, Meridian) you and your family can attend the Children’s Winterland Festival. The event features a variety of Christmas themed games and activities including pictures with Santa, cookie decorating, ornament making, Christmas card making, letters to Santa, and much more! Admission is free with a Meridian Food Bank donation.

Get your family Christmas photo with Santa at The Village at Meridian this holiday season. Pet-friendly days are available. Also available at The Village at Meridian, Ice Skating in Fountain Square. From now until January 28th you can have fun ice skating with your family and friends. Skating hours are Mon – Fri: 3-9:00 p.m.; Sat: noon – 9 p.m.; and Sun: noon – 6 p.m. Ice Skating costs $7 for adults 13 and up, and $5 for children 12 and under.
